Nylon fabric used for apparel development

Nylon Fabric Construction and Fiber Composition

Our knitted nylon fabric is produced from polyamide (PA) fibers, typically combined with spandex or elastane to achieve two-way or four-way stretch. Fiber ratios are adjusted based on end-use requirements — higher nylon content for durability and color retention, higher spandex content for compression and recovery. Standard blends include 80/20 and 88/12 nylon-spandex configurations.

Manufacturing Process

Nylon yarn is spun from polyamide polymer and combined with elastane filament before entering circular or warp knitting. Circular knitting produces single jersey and interlock nylon-spandex structures; warp knitting is used for tricot and mesh constructions with directional stretch. After knitting, fabric goes through dyeing, heat-setting, and finishing to stabilize dimensions and achieve the target hand feel and performance spec.

Performance Properties

Knitted nylon fabric delivers high tensile strength and abrasion resistance relative to its weight, making it a reliable choice for high-use performance garments. The addition of spandex or elastane improves stretch recovery in two-way and four-way constructions. Color retention is strong when dyeing, heat-setting, and wash testing are properly controlled. Nylon has low moisture absorption and dries quickly, supporting products that require fast-drying performance and stable recovery after repeated wear. Color retention is strong, supporting deep dyeing without significant fade under wash cycles.

Technical Specifications

    • Weight range: 150–600 GSM, covering lightweight performance mesh through heavyweight compression fabric.
    • Fiber composition: nylon/polyamide with spandex or elastane, mainly in knitted constructions such as single jersey, interlock, tricot, and mesh.
    • Stretch type: two-way or four-way, depending on construction.
    • Surface finishes: brushed, anti-pill, matte, or gloss available on applicable constructions.
    • MOQ: stock colors from 25 kg where available; custom solid colors usually start from 300 kg per color. Final MOQ depends on yarn, dyeing, and finish requirements.

Apparel Applications

Nylon fabric's durability and performance attributes make it well-suited for various types of apparel and accessories, including:

  • Outerwear

Nylon is used for rain jackets, windbreakers, and winter coats due to its water-resistant and insulating properties.

  • Activewear

Nylon-based sportswear, such as leggings, shorts, and performance tops, offers comfort and flexibility during physical activities.

  • Swimwear

Quick-drying and water-resistant, nylon fabric is commonly used in swimsuits and beachwear.

  • Hosiery

Nylon's stretch and durability make it a staple material for stockings and tights.

  • Accessories

Nylon is used for bags, backpacks, hats, and gloves, providing both style and practicality.

Customization and Order Options

Custom development options include fiber ratio adjustments, GSM specification, colorway development, and surface finish selection. Runtang supports lab dips, strike-offs, sample yardage, and bulk production after specification confirmation. For brands requiring recycled nylon or GRS-certified options, availability can be checked at the inquiry stage based on yarn source and production schedule.
