Chenille Fabric Construction and Fiber Options

Chenille fabric is made from chenille yarn, a pile yarn formed by placing short pile fibers between core yarns and twisting them together. The yarn can then be knitted into fabric to create a plush surface texture and soft bulk. Cotton chenille supports a natural hand feel, while polyester and acrylic chenille can improve pile consistency, color retention, and cost control for larger production runs. Spandex may be added to selected knit constructions when recovery is required.

Weight Range and Production Specifications

Our chenille knit fabric is commonly developed in 260–480 GSM, with final weight depending on yarn count, pile density, knitting structure, and finishing. Lighter constructions provide softer drape and lower bulk, while heavier styles create more body and insulation. Pile height, yarn twist, gauge, shrinkage, and finishing treatment should be confirmed during sampling.

Color Development and Pattern Customization

Chenille knit fabric supports solid dyeing, space dyeing, and yarn-dyed stripe or jacquard constructions. Custom color matching is available for bulk orders, with lab dip approval included in the sampling process. Solid-color MOQ is 300 kg per color; patterned constructions may require higher minimums depending on yarn setup. Color fastness requirements should be confirmed by buyer testing standards during sampling, especially for dark shades, yarn-dyed effects, and bulk repeat orders.

Apparel Applications

Chenille fabric’s soft pile surface and heavier hand feel make it suitable for textured knitwear, jackets, loungewear, and selected trim details.

  • blue sweater

    Knitwear & Sweaters

Chenille yarn creates a soft, plush surface for sweaters, cardigans, and knitted tops with a heavier hand feel.

  • blue jacket

    Outerwear & Jackets

Heavier chenille knits can add warmth and surface depth to jackets, coat panels, and selected outerwear details.

  • blue loungewear

    Loungewear Sets

Mid-weight chenille blends work for matching loungewear sets where softness, drape, and texture are key selling points.

  • blue cuff

    Accessories & Trims

Chenille strips or panels can be used for cuffs, collars, bag panels, and decorative garment trims.

Chenille Fabric Manufacturing Process

Production begins with chenille yarn selection, including fiber content, pile length, core yarn, yarn count, and twist level. The chenille yarn is then knitted into the selected construction, with machine gauge, yarn feed, density, and finishing adjusted to target GSM and surface texture.

Post-knitting finishing may include relaxing, washing, brushing or shearing where applicable, drying, and inspection.

The dyeing route depends on fiber composition and color effect, such as reactive dyeing for cotton-rich options and disperse dyeing for polyester-rich options. Final checks should cover pile retention, color consistency, shrinkage, and dimensional stability.
