Gray bird's-eye fabric reveals its raised dotted structure.

Construction and Technical Properties

Bird's eye fabric is produced on circular knitting machines through selected knit and tuck loop arrangements that create evenly spaced raised dots across the surface. The dot structure forms small channels between yarn loops, supporting airflow and moisture movement when combined with suitable yarn selection and finishing. Standard weight range is 150–400 GSM, with lighter weights offering better airflow and heavier weights providing a more structured hand feel and higher fabric coverage. Polyester bird's eye can support moisture-management performance, especially when combined with suitable yarn selection and finishing. Cotton variants are preferred where natural fiber content is required.

Moisture Management and Durability

The tightly knitted dot structure helps improve dimensional stability and reduce distortion through repeated washing, depending on yarn composition, GSM, and finishing. Polyester constructions can maintain moisture-management performance after repeated washing when the yarn, fabric structure, and finishing process are correctly specified. Solid-color and yarn-dyed options are available depending on order specifications. Custom finishing treatments, including anti-pilling and anti-odor options, may be available depending on fabric composition and order requirements.

Knitting Process

Bird's eye fabric is produced on circular knitting machines through selected knit and tuck loop sequences that form the raised dot pattern at regular intervals across the fabric face. The selected loop arrangement creates raised dot areas while leaving small spaces between yarn loops, helping the fabric maintain texture, airflow, and surface structure.

After knitting, the grey fabric undergoes pre-treatment, dyeing, and finishing processes in sequence. Finishing options may include heat-setting for synthetic or spandex-containing blends, anti-pilling treatment, and moisture-management finishes depending on the fabric composition and end-use requirements.

Apparel Applications

Bird’s eye fabric has a small textured pattern and breathable structure, making it useful for polo shirts, uniforms, and sportswear tops.

  • blue polo shirt

    Polo Shirts

The structured texture and breathability of bird's eye make it a traditional and ongoing fabric choice for polo shirts across sportswear and premium casualwear brands.

  • blue activewear tops

    Golf & Country Club Apparel

Technical bird's eye in polyester or cotton-polyester blends is used for golf shirts, club uniforms, and leisure sportswear requiring a refined finish and moisture management.

  • blue workwear tops

    Corporate & Workwear Tops

The fabric's dimensional stability and pressed appearance suit corporate shirts and branded workwear tops where a structured, professional look is required.

  • blue cycling apparel

    Cycling & Endurance Jerseys

Lightweight synthetic bird’s eye can be used in cycling jerseys and endurance tops where breathability and surface stability are needed.

  • What apparel applications is bird's eye knit fabric used for?

Bird's eye knit fabric is primarily used in polo shirts, performance T-shirts, athletic uniforms, teamwear, and corporate workwear. Polyester constructions are commonly used for sportswear and moisture-management applications, while cotton and cotton-blend versions are used in casual and premium polo programs that require natural fiber content. It may also be used as jersey linings and base-layer components for outerwear programs.
